QUBIT QKD – A Laboratory Quantum Key Distribution System
QUBIT QKD is a laboratory research and educational system that enables practical exploration of the principles of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). The system consists of two stations, Alice and Bob, between which key transmission and generation are carried out via an optical channel, while the key agreement process can use a classical communication channel, such as a LAN or the Internet.
The system allows users to follow the entire QKD communication process—from Alice’s random selection of encoding bases and bit values, through qubit preparation and transmission, to their measurement by Bob and the agreement of a secure key. Alice and Bob can then disclose part of the recorded data and, based on it, jointly determine the secure key.
A key feature of the system is the ability to demonstrate eavesdropping attempts by Eve. Intercepting qubits sent by Alice alters their quantum state, after which Eve can create and forward her own false qubits to Bob. This allows users to practically observe the mechanisms underlying the security of quantum communication.
QUBIT QKD also includes hardware capabilities for emulating natural environmental noise and interference, enabling experiments under near-real-world conditions and analysis of their impact on transmission.
The system serves as a practical tool for conducting laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and educational activities in the field of quantum communication and QKD. It allows participants not only to learn the theory but, above all, to observe the operation of individual elements in the quantum key distribution process.
